In good company

Is there an accompanying James Spader fan page?
There is almost certainly a James Spader fan page, but I doubt it's "accompanying." Speaking for myself, it's hard to love them both. It was always an either/or proposition for me, and James never cut the mustard. It was hard to love the slimy one. But I will admit that I gained a completely new appreciation for him after Secretary, and while I don't watch it anymore, his character on Boston Legal is pretty stellar. But the man is not sexy in his middling age.
See for me it was a very tough choice, and who I'd choose would vary depending on my mood. Sometimes I wanted a naughty redhead, and sometimes I wanted the good brunette.

Although, I have to say my favorite Andrew McCarthy is the one from St. Elmo's Fire. He wins over all the other brat packers in that one.

No one ever held a candle to Andrew for me in the entire brat pack, though I think I may sort of had a girl-crush on Molly Ringwald.

I just re-watched Less Than Zero last weekend, and entirely forgot how smokin' Andrew was in that one.

Have you seen Lipstick Jungle? The man is hot. Spader? Puffy and decidedly not hot. It's the staying power of Andrew that prompted me to take the bold move to join his fan page.

Spader was outstanding in Secretary. It almost made me develop a new-found respect for him. Almost. I don't hate him as much as I hate Ethan Hawke, but it's close.

What about Jon Cryer aka "Ducky?" Would you have chosen Andrew McCarthy over him as Molly Ringwald did?
That movie was absolutely genius. It took me a long time to accept that I really, really liked him in that movie, and it opened up some new doors for me regarding his acting ability.

Absolutely, WITHOUT A DOUBT. Pretty in Pink is one of my all-time favorite movies, and I cannot tell you how many times I fantasized about being in that movie. In fact, there was a guy in my high school who resembled Andrew McCarthy quite a bit, and I used to plague him by requiring that he recite lines back and forth with me from my favorite scenes in the movie. This may explain why I had no actual success in snagging him as my boyfriend; I am quite sure he knew that my main interest in him was as a surrogate to Andrew.

Trust me. I had it bad for Mr. McCarthy.

Wow, that is intense...in a charming John Hughes kind of way.

Fun fact: The girl scoping out Duckie at the end is the same girl who's best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who's going with the girl who saw Ferris pass out at 31 Flavors last night.

I love fun facts like that.

Sometime I'll have to post my senior prom picture. If I do say so myself, I look remarkably like Ms. Ringwald.

I cannot hate Ethan Hawke. I know I probably should and a lot of people do. But I really, really love him in the Before Sunrise/Before Sunset.
I also do not hate Ethan Hawke. I rather like him. But I must admit that he has the greasiest hair of any actor, and that is a problem for me in the broader scheme of things.
And he cheated on Uma Thurman.
With that hair of his, he may have been doing her a favor.
Did you ever notice that Pretty in Pink and Reality Bites were basically the same movie, but with totally opposite outcomes? I like to think it was a generational shift. In the 90s, she wound up with Duckie, and it was the superior choice. And Ethan Hawke is totally more credible than Andrew McCarthy ever was.
Blasphemy. All of it.
